ABOUT THE PROPOSAL

The Relocation Plans

Brize Norton Primary School will relocate to a new purpose-built site at Brize Meadow, to the east of Carterton. The relocation will provide a modern learning environment designed to better support the needs of current and future pupils.

The new school is being developed in response to increasing local demand for primary school places, alongside the opportunity to replace the old school facilities with a purpose-built building suited to modern education.

As a purpose-built school, the design will provide high-quality teaching, learning, and pupil support spaces. The development will include a new school hall, a full production kitchen, and a Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) to support pupils with additional needs. The new site will also include significantly improved outdoor space and dedicated playing fields, which are currently limited at the existing school site.

There is insufficient capacity to expand and develop the existing Brize Norton Primary School site. As a result, current pupils and staff will relocate to the new school at Brize Meadow. The existing school site has limited accommodation and does not have its own dedicated playing fields. The new school therefore represents a significant opportunity to provide a substantially improved teaching and learning environment for both pupils and staff.

Associated landscaping and external spaces will form an important part of the development, including sports pitches, hard games courts, soft play areas, habitat spaces, and Forest School areas. Parking facilities for cars, motorbikes, cycles, and scooters will also be included in line with Oxfordshire County Council standards.

The new school will form part of the Oxford Diocesan Schools Trust (ODST) family of academies. The project is being delivered in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council and the Oxford Diocesan Board of Education (ODBE). Funding for the development is being provided through Section 106 contributions associated with the surrounding residential development.

The development has significant educational and community benefits and aims to expand, consolidate, and improve the quality of school accommodation in the area. The school is also being designed with sustainability in mind and will aim to achieve Net Zero Carbon (NZC) standards.

Overall, the relocated school is intended to provide a more flexible, sustainable, and inclusive environment for both current and future pupils, while supporting the long-term educational needs of the local area.

The development aims to:

  • Provide a modern purpose-built school environment

  • Improve the quality of teaching and learning facilities

  • Deliver enhanced outdoor space and dedicated playing fields

  • Support pupils with additional needs through specialist provision

  • Provide additional school places to support local demand

  • Improve facilities for pupils, staff, and the wider community

  • Deliver sustainable, future-focused school accommodation

  • Support the long-term sustainability of primary education in the area
